Fairy Halloween Tutorial

Image

October is my favorite autumn month! Pumpkin patches, fall festivals, haunted houses, corn mazes… I love it all! But the best part of October is the last day of the month, Halloween! I love this holiday because of its creative nature, the ability to express yourself. On this day, you can be whatever you want to be.

I decided to start Halloween Costume Series on my YouTube channel to help girls with their Halloween attire. Today, I did a Fairy Makeup and Hair Tutorial. Here are the products that I used:

Image

I always prime my face before putting any makeup on, especially for Halloween. This Velvet Skin Coat by DHC is perfect for keeping my makeup put all day!

Image

I use this Magic Lumi primer with the first primer to give me that glow that every fairy has 🙂 I only apply it to areas of my face that I want to highlight.

Image

Photoready Airbrush by Revlon is a great foundation if you know you will be taking lots of pictures. And on Halloween, that is definitely the trend. It comes out foamy and with a help of a brush, sticks to your skin.

Image

Next is concealer. I’m in love with this one by Sonia Kashuk. I mainly use the top two shades (Obviously!) and it covers all of my imperfections flawlesly.

Image

Then I use Fix+ and start doing my eye makeup while I’m waiting for it to dry.

ImageImage

I use the paint pot by Mac to prime my eyes. It works just like the face primer.

ImageImage

All of the shadows that I used for this look came from this palette by BHcosmetics. This palette is inexpensive and provides all of the vibrant colors that you need for Halloween looks.

Image

Here is the eyeliner that I used to line my eyes. This is also the eyeliner that I use on daily basis. It’s great! It goes on like a liquid eyeliner and is long-lasting.

ImageImage

I always use more than one mascara when I’m doing any makeup look. I feel like it works much better than just one mascara and makes the eyelashes look great. This is my favorite combination.

Image

Pressed powder is next. Dream Matte powder prevents my face from looking oily.

ImageAnd this is my favorite bronzer that I use daily for contouring my face.

ImageAnd you can’t forget blush, especially for a fairy look 🙂 I also added some purple eyeshadow from the BHcosmetics palette.

ImageImage

I wanted to create purple lips, but didn’t want to buy a purple lipstick. So, this is what I did. I applied this berry-colored lipstick to my lips and then added some purple eyeshadow from the palette. It turned out great!

Lastly, I added glitter to my eyes, cheeks and lips, curled my hair, and my Fairy look was complete. Check out the video:

Zoya Nail Polish: Fall 2013 Satin Collection [Swatches & Review]

Image

An outfit is never complete without a manicure… At least that’s how I feel, if I don’t have my nails painted. I literally feel naked! Strange, huh? When you have a fresh manicure that complements your outfit, you look put together. Details ARE important!

Just like fashion, nail polish colors change with each season. In my last post I said that fall is my favorite season, so it’s no surprise that fall polish colors are my favorite! Zoya came out with three different collections for Fall 2013:  Satins, Cashmeres, and Pixie Dusts. Today I am showing the first one, the Satin Collection. It contains 5 shimmer polishes and 1 glitter polish. The polishes are jewel toned, which is perfect for fall!

ImageImage

Maria Luisa is a glitter polish that has gold flakes. With two coats, you can wear it on its own (like I’m doing in the picture) or you can apply one layer on top of virtually any nail polish. It is so versatile, love it! It was a little hard to apply, because of the thick consistency. You have to play around with the placement of the gold flakes, to make sure they are evenly distributed on the nails.

ImageImage

Channing is a coppery red/orange polish with gold shimmer. It changes colors depending on the light. In a darker light it looks orange, but in the sunlight it leans more towards red. This nail polish reminds me of the leaves in the fall. That burnt orange color you see on trees! The formula is great, very opaque and it has a nice consistency. I used 2 coats for the photo, but you can get away with just one!

ImageImage

Claudine is a dark gunmetal shimmer polish. It’s in between two colors olive green and gray, and looks super chic. This is one of those colors that is dark enough to look black in certain light, without being completely black. The formula was good and like with Channing, you really only need one coat. I used 2 coats for the photos to give it the full effect.

IMG_1347 IMG_1367

Mason is a red toned purple shimmer polish. I love this shade, because it’s the closest to pink, without looking summery. The formula was a little bit on the thin side for what I personally like but it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. You definitely need two coats to get it opaque looking.

ImageImage

Neve is a sapphire blue shimmer polish. In the bottle it looks a little more purple than it does on the nail (that’s why swatches are important!).  The formula was good, it was a little bit patchy on the first coat but perfect with the second.

IMG_1348 IMG_1372

Giovanna is a teal shimmer polish. It looks like a jade green in person, but still looks teal in most lighting. The formula was good, the consistency was good and the opacity was also really nice. I used 2 coats for the photos.

The Satin Collection from Zoya is available now at Zoya.com, each polish retails for $8. You can also get all 6 in a sampler set for $48!

What do you think?

Which one of these is your favorite color for fall? Do you think that nail polish is important for the complete outfit? If you have any amazing ideas for YulianasStyle, post in the comments below!

Fashion Staples: Denim Jacket

Image

Autumn. It’s only the best season EVER! The weather is finally cooling down, leaves are changing colors, Halloween is around the corner, Bath and Body Works gets the “Leaves” candle back in stock (am I the only one who loves that scent?). There are pumpkin patches, corn mazes, hay rides, haunted houses, pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks… How can you not love it? But the best part of Fall is Fashion! Stores are stocked with cozy sweaters and boots, newspaper stands are filled with some amazing fashion magazines… Oh, and did I mention New York Fashion Week? NYFW is like Christmas to the fashionistas around the world! It’s definitely a place to get inspired. You get to see 92 designers’ collections for the upcoming year… Who WOULDN’T get inspired?!

Image

Most of us though, would not wear pieces straight from the runway, nor could we afford them. We opt out for simpler, more wearable clothing that can be mixed and matched with different outfits. And that’s exactly what I will talk about today, the fashion staples.

Image

I will cover one the staples in particular, the Denim jacket. It is a truly versatile garment that looks stylish on its own, and as a layering piece. Denim jackets are the perfect transitional piece. They look great paired with pretty much everything, from casual tees and leggings to colored denim and even formal pieces (yes, your LBD will look amazing with a denim jacket!).

ImageImageImage

Numerous celebs from Kim Kardashian, Cameron Diaz, Miranda Kerr, Rihanna and other entertainment royalty have been seen wearing denim jackets with just about anything.

I’ve created 7 different looks showing just how versatile the denim jacket can be. Let me know which look was your favorite 🙂

What do you think?

Denim jackets are a staple in many wardrobes. Would you wear these outfits? How do you re-work your denim jacket? If you have any amazing ideas for YulianasStyle, post in the comments below!

Cactus Skincare Review: Is It Worth The Hype?

Image

When I first heard about this skincare, something about its name scared me. Maybe that’s because I had this image in my mind of a big prickly plant growing somewhere in the middle of a desert. Just the thought of it being close to my face made me feel uneasy.

Image

Obviously, Cactus skincare doesn’t consist of needles, it only contains the best natural (mostly organic) ingredients that keep your skin clean, healthy, and balanced.

When I received the products, I immediately opened them to smell them. To me, that’s the most important part! The ingredients and the effectiveness is obviously extremely important, but if it doesn’t smell delicious, I can’t bring myself to use the products. I have a sensitive nose!

Let me tell you, my nose approved! They all smelled very fresh, with a hint of citrus and sandalwood.

Image

The first product that I tried was the Lemon Myrtle Cleanser. The smell of it is heavenly! It has a creamy consistency, so it’s not as harsh on the skin as a foam cleanser would be. When you have oily skin (I do and it’s a pain!), you think it’s best to wash all of that oil off, right? WRONG! That is the LAST thing you want to do! Here is a little biology lesson for you, when you strip away the oil, your skin goes into a freak out mode and tries to compensate by over producing oils. That leads to clogged pores, which in turn cause pimples (yuck!). Definitely NOT something I want for my face! Sometimes prolonged use of a harsh cleanser can leave your skin red or dry it out. Those aren’t very appealing looks either! This cleanser is formulated specifically to avoid the scenarios mentioned above. It uses Apricot Kernel Oil to penetrate the deepest layers of the skin, without stripping it of the nutrients. It’s also known as a carrier oil, so it’s able to   take the Lemon Myrtle Oil along. By the way, the latter oil is known for its anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties, so it kills all the yucky bacteria on your skin.

Image

Next, I tried the White Clay Mask. It’s supposed to be a weekly treatment to gently take out all of the toxins that get built up over a period of time, redness, fatty oil, as well as evens out the skin tone. I applied the mask using my fingers and let it penetrate my skin for 25 minutes (it says to leave it on for 15-20 minutes, but I am a rebel!), while catching up on my favorite YouTube channels. At the end of 25 minutes, my face looked completely white (that’s ho you know that the mask is dry and ready to be taken off), so I washed it off with warm water. Wow, my skin felt amazing! Super soft and full of moisture.

 Image

To prepare my skin for bed, I used Nature’s Antioxidant Creme (I use it as a Night Creme). It contains Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Cactus Flower Extract, Apricot Kernel Oil and Jojoba Oil. All of the above mentioned ingredients are packed full of anti-oxidants to help fight free radicals. Here is a quick chemistry lesson (didn’t think you would be learning science on a beauty blog, did you?). Free radicals are the main cause of sun damage and aging.  And an antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. They help to remove the free radicals and their damage from these cells. That is, they slow down and can even stop this oxidative damage that causes the skin to age.  Antioxidants are reducing agents. Meaning antioxidants reduce the damaging oxidative process in cells, including skin cells. In plain words, free radicals are the bad guys and we need anti-oxidants, the good guys, to fight them. Well, this creme is full of anti-oxidants as well as vitamins A, E, F, and D. It also contains fatty acids that are good for your skin, such as oleic, linoleic, and stearic (you probably feel the same way I felt in organic chemistry, overwhelmed!). One thing for sure, the next morning my skin felt like it’s never felt before! It was super soft without being oily and it looked fresh. I didn’t break out, which is great considering that my skin freaks out anytime I try a new skincare product.

My skin looked so good that I hesitated washing my face (it looked so dewy). I finally washed it using the cleanser mentioned above and my skin still felt and looked great (I squealed a little… or a lot!)

Image

Then I applied a Light Balancing Creme (I use it as a day creme) to moisturize and prepare my skin for the day ahead. It stays on beautifully under makeup! The creme brightens and evens skin tone using the essential oils of orange and lemon (they contain Vitamin C, which is a natural skin brightener!). Ingredients such as Jojoba Oil, Lotus Extract, and Gingko Biloba extract help skin produce normal amount of sebum (that’s the scientific term for the oil that your skin produces). The creme also contains many nutrients that help the skin stay hydrated, heal and replenish itself, while you are on the go all day.  It also has a natural mineral sunscreen, Titanium Dioxide, that protects skin from harmful UV rays.

I have used this skincare routine exclusively ever since i got it! Now, fast forward three weeks, and my skin feels nourished and well-balanced. It is not as oily as it used to be, but does not appear to be dry or flaky. It looks and feels perfect! I started wearing less foundation, because there is no need to cover my skin anymore.
